Bold and Bizarre Games Bulletin | August
Another month another Bulletin. It's a good one today, it is! We're serving up five tasty tasty little game-treats for you, as well as an update to Puzzletrunk - your chance to guarantee this month's partner game - THE CORRIDOR - via our new puzzle: The Button. It's a devious one this month. You're going to hate it!
This preamble needs no more. Let's hop to it.
#1 Cult of Pin
Coming Soon, Steam, Itch.io | KennyMakesGames
So it's Pinball, right, but it's all organic and off-kilter. In a good way. Cult of Pin strips back a lot of the aesthetical tropes of traditional pinball tables with something...else, resulting in a fresh take on the game. Couple that with your usual slew of upgrades and roguelikey deck-buildery, and you have a very captivating experience on your hands. Go give the demo a whirl.
#2 Heartworm
Out Now, Steam | Vincent Adinolfi, DreadXP
The PSOne-era survival horror genre has been treated to a real resurgence of late, and Heartworm rides that wave with confidence. Fixed cameras, over the shoulder perspectives, chunky polygonal assets -- it's all there. If those OG Silent Hill cravings are getting a bit much for you, Heartworm is just the ticket.
#3 Wildwood Down
Out Now, Steam | Crashable Studios
Wildwood Down casts you as Dan; a man with Down Syndrome who gets embroiled in a murder mystery along the boardwalk of Wildwood, New Jersey. Quite the concept, right? It's funny, and brave and heartfelt - traits we don't usually focus on round these parts, to be honest - but the game still manages to be bold and bizarre at the same time.
#4 Clean Break
Out Now, Steam | Benjamin Pilbrow
#5 Loan Shark
Out Now, Demo also Available, Steam | Studio Carota
As a connoisseur of puns and general word-play, Loan Shark was a shoe-in for this month's Bulletin. The Loan Shark is coming for you, and you need to catch fish to repay your debt. What a joyous concept. Well, it would be joyous, if it wasn't also dank and terrifying? Loan Shark is twisted and grungy, and the fish are, not very pretty. Unlike lots of fishing games, the game let's you get your hands dirty with both the gutting and the deal-making.
Reminder! Pantaloon's partnered games for June is Lost in Random: The Eternal Die
This month we've partnered with the very lovely Thomas Mackinnon on THE CORRIDOR - a small but perfectly formed game that explores the relationship between game and player.
It's one of those game best enjoyed in one sitting; a short but impactful experience that will likely stay with you.
If you've not told us you want a key yet, do that via any of this month’s emails. We'll be sending out keys on August 28th (Primo subscribers the day before).
Ok. August done.
See you next month x
