Bold and Bizarre Games Bulletin - April 2026

Today's Bulletin is big; bursting at the seams with oddball treats for you. One misguided flex or overly-confident lunge and we'll end up ripping a hole in things and exposing ourselves.

This is also the first Bulletin since we announced BOXROOM - which has captured the hearts of players who miss the era of being able to touch, hold and smell (!) their game collections. The demo is still up for now, but will be coming down before long as we prepare for the early access release of the game - which we'll have a date for very soon.

On with the show, then.

By the way, we do this Bulletin in video form each month now, too…

#1 I Eat Paintings (When Guards Aren’t Looking)

Out Now Steam | Frog and Dove Games

I never miss a chance to include a bit of Bosch in this newsletter. If there's a game that references the work of the Dutch painter, you can bet your Netherlandish butt it'll find its way into this newsletter. I Eat Paintings (when guards aren't looking) is a hidden object game where you'll inspect works of art (indeed, including that of our friend Hieronymus) and decipher cryptic clues leading to certain concealed items within. Which you'll then eat, safe from the prying eyes of security experts tasked with ensuring their safety.

#2 Final Sentence

Out Now, Steam | Button Mash, Polden Publishing

Final Sentence has appeared in one of our Bulletins once before. But it's out now. So we'll revisit what is, let's be frank, a truly magnificent concept: a battle royale typing game. Type words quickly, without error, in a tense type-off with up to 40 typists, all jabbing letter-keys as if their life depended on it. Which it does. Because as letters are missed and words are butchered, bullets start landing in the back of skulls. To anybody who's stayed up to the wee hours trying to finish an essay or dissertation which is due the next morning, this is only marginally less tense.

#3 Cursed Words

Out Now, Steam | Buried Things, Forklift Interactive

I saw Cursed Words at an event last year and quickly fell in love with its offbeat brand of word-assemblage. It starts out all Scrabbalatro, which is cool enough as a hook, but the game quickly starts messing with its own rule-sets and gets deeper, weirder and more...cursed. Give it a spin - I promise you it's one of the most unexpected roguelike experiences you're likely to have this year.

#4 Funi Raccoon Game

Out Now , Steam | Crayon Kit, The Crayon Eating Company

The other raccoon game this month is somewhat less polished and sensical compared with its Playstack counterpart. Funi Raccoon Game is indeed v funi; as a raccoon who's recently moved into a new house (a dumpster, obvs) you'll proceed to simply collect as much stuff as you can, hauling it back to your dumpster which unlocks new places to find more stuff to furnish the dumpster with. What a beautiful loop.

#5 Print Gallery of an Artist

Out Now, Itch.io | Daniel Linsenn

Print Gallery of an Artist is an understated technical marvel. It's simple and doesn't ask much of you, but is incredibly unique and head-fucky. There's a bigger game here, I reckon, something that takes the central recursion mechanic and runs with it, but even this explorative short web game is well worth your time and attention.

Reminder! Pantaloon's partnered games for April is The Banished Vault

For April we're taking you on a cosmic voyage of discovery  in our partnership with Bithell Games and Lunar Division.  The Banished Vault is a strategy game of exploration, endurance, and space travel on an interstellar gothic monastery.

That's your April Bulletin in the bag. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have typing it all up.

Oh, and you might want to keep an eye on your inbox. We have something else cool for you going out a little later... 🧜‍♀️
